“Will you be my Valentine?” XOXO, Your Teeth

By Jill Feilmeier on February 10, 2015 in Just for Kicks

have a fresh breath Valentine's Day!

The 14th is near and love is in the air

But where will you go and what will you wear?

While you make your plans final for a night full of fun

Get a head start on your smile for that special someone.

A healthy smile doesn't happen overnight. If you've been lazy with your dental health routine, it's time to get your mouth in gear. Brushing with a fluoride toothpaste twice a day and flossing at least once a day will keep breath fresher and help prevent tooth decay. So, while you prep for your Valentine's date, prep your smile (and breath) too!

You're ready to dine; it's time to select

What menu items will have the fresh breath effect?

There are foods good for your grin and this love celebration

Other foods, however, should be enjoyed in moderation.

Garlic and onions are in the majority of cuisines, so it's difficult to avoid them all together. However, if the name of the dish contains the word “garlic” (i.e. Chicken and Garlic Linguine), it's probably a dominating flavor of the meal. Steer clear of dishes where garlic and onion are the stars.

Why should you take it easy on the onions and garlic for your special date? Once food is absorbed into the blood, it is carried to the lungs. There it can give exhaled air a foul scent.

Opt for a healthy option containing a balanced ratio of vegetables, whole grains and protein. Avoid overly starchy side dishes – they tend to stick to your teeth.

The meal has ended and it tasted delicious,

But why is your sweetie looking suspicious?

It might be bad breath or a smile filled with lettuce,

Those greens could be stuck inside a tooth crevice!

After you finish eating, excuse yourself to the restroom to take care of a few teeth tasks. First, check your pearly whites in the mirror and brush and floss to remove any excess food particles.

Roses are red, your teeth will be white

If you brush twice a day, your smile will shine bright!

These teeth tips will make you a Valentine's boss

Be thankful for love, and of course dental floss.

Happy Valentine's Day!
